Florence (Flo) Smith - Now & Then

Florence (Flo) Smith - Now & Then

Written and Directed by Christopher Saul

It’s 1969 and a woman looks back on her life in London. From the Boer War to The Summer of Love, Flo Smith - daughter, sister, wife, mother, widow and grandmother - recalls with horror, humour, tears and joy those turbulent times at home and in the world beyond her front door.

Flo is performed by Ursula Mohan. Ursula started her career at the age of fifteen and has been working as an actress ever since. She has played everything from a female Lear to a clippie in On The Buses. This year, as well as playing Flo, she is part of the touring production of Girls which plays throughout the UK.

Theatre Company Reviews:

Funny, poignant, often both at once, Flo is both an engaging personal story and the best kind of history lesson. - Harriet Gilbert (BBC R4, "A Good Read")

Not to be missed. - Hugh Stephenson (Professor of Journalism, City University)

An astonishing empathetic and captivating performance from Ursula Mohan, feisty, funny, frank, entirely convincing as a spunky old dear – a working-class London girl who has endured poverty, injustice, a troubled upbringing, love and loss. - Gill Sutherland (Stratford Herald)
