MOUTHFUL is a workshopped performance of two new verbatim shows performed in tandem. 

The first, BLACK WOMEN DATING WHITE MEN, by Somebody Jones is a collection of interviews of (you guessed it) Black women who are in long-term relationships (plus two marriages) with white men. Jones was inspired to write the piece when she found herself in a relationship with a white man, something that she never imagined happening. Expect talks about privilege, activism, and the mystery of headscarves.

The second piece, LITTLE SAUSAGE by Deborah Vogt and Josh Fowley, is new verbatim musical about the relationship between veganism and masculinity. Based entirely on the words and interviews of eight people, Little Sausage explores the joys and sorrows surrounding the world of veganism, including vegan sausage rolls, relationships that change, and the tired expectation that meat = muscles = manly.

We want to workshop these two shows together to investigate ways in which the shows and communities speak to one another. What happens when your community believes that you’ve betray them? Does activism have to look the same? Is there room for everybody at the table?

The performance will be followed by a talkback with the playwrights and composer.
