The Cat's The Thing

The Cat's The Thing

One woman, one cat and many intrusive thoughts. An absurd comedy breaking down OCD one kitty at a time.

Baloney Theatre Company proudly presents an absurd comedy, written and performed by Marissa Landy, based on her lived experiences of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Tanya and Dale are sat in a room with no apparent reason to stay - apart from a sensational event which will take place on the 25th of an unknown month. Tanya senses the event will be life-changing, but something has to change in order for that to happen. She’s in aworld with many questions and no obvious answers. One thing stands between Tanya and life: the door. Will she find her freedom?

In this production Baloney Theatre is drawing attention to mental health by using comedy as a means of making the subject matter accessible. They believe it is important to introduce audiences to OCD, as it is largely misrepresented in media and often misunderstood. The show takes inspiration from plays such as Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days while involving character acting reminiscent of Rowan Atkinson and Rik Mayall.

Baloney Theatre Company consists of works written, directed and/or performed by Marissa Landy. The Cat's the Thing is her first autobiographical solo show, following her Fringe debut last year with the 41⁄2 star Same Old, Same Oldies. She strives to make work that tackles difficult and sometimes sensitive subject matter through the form of absurd comedy in order to spark conversations. With influences from Harold Pinter to Fawlty Towers, Baloney Theatre Company will always offer you a ridiculous time.
