The Wonder Pill

It's 2230. The human race is dying. Can a time capsule from 2019 and three DIY scientists be enough to save the world?

The people of the future are battling a suicide epidemic that threatens to kill off the human race completely. By chance, a group of archaeologists discover a time capsule from 2019. Their findings catapult the audience into the past. Through diary entries and experiments, the story of three amateur 'scientists' and their struggle to function in day-to-day life, emerges. Each of them suffers from a form of mental illness and, due to their inability to acquire the professional help they need, they have resorted to a range of self-help methods to keep themselves alive. The individuals are never identified by their names. They are simply referred to in the case files as Number 1, Number 2 and Number 3.

Their methods include whale noises, the healing powers of tea and ASMR; travelling towards darker avenues with alcohol and narcotics as time goes on. When it comes to these shut-ins, there is absolutely nothing they won't try.

Based on autobiographical anecdotes from the company, this devised piece explored untreated mental illnesses, how different self-help coping mechanisms can manifest themselves in a person's day-to-day life and the hazards of ridiculously long mental health waiting lists.

Suitable for 15+ due to comedic use of illegal substances, mentions of suicide and infrequent bad language.
